Overview
The 6-Day Sirimon-Naro Moru Route offers an exhilarating trekking experience through the majestic landscapes of Mount Kenya. Beginning at the Sirimon Gate, trekkers traverse diverse terrains, from lush montane forests to alpine moorlands, gradually ascending through panoramic vistas of valleys and glacial tarns. Along the route, climbers encounter a variety of wildlife, including colobus monkeys and various bird species. The trek culminates in a challenging ascent to Point Lenana, the third-highest peak of Mount Kenya, offering breathtaking sunrise views over the vast African plains. Descending via the Naro Moru Route, trekkers conclude their journey with a sense of accomplishment and unforgettable memories of Kenya’s iconic mountain.
Day 1:
Nairobi
Arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi. Our representative will help you to transfer you
to your hotel and check-in. Spend the day exploring Nairobi's attractions, such as the Giraffe Centre,
Nairobi National Park, or the Karen Blixen Museum. In the evening, have a pre-trek briefing with your
trekking operator to discuss the upcoming adventure on Mt. Kenya. Overnight stay in Nairobi.
Day 2:
Nairobi-Sirimon
After an early breakfast, drive to the Sirimon Gate (2,600m) on the northwest side of Mt. Kenya,
approximately a 4-hour drive. Complete park formalities at the gate and start the trekking adventure.
The hike starts through beautiful forests and bamboo belts, gradually ascending to reach the Sirimon
Camp. Enjoy the scenic surroundings and have a hearty dinner at the camp. Overnight at the Old Moses
Mountain Camp.
Day 3:
Old Moses Camp
After breakfast, start the trek through the moorland, crossing over the Liki and Mackinder valleys. The
trail continues to gradually ascend until you reach the Old Moses Camp. Observe the unique flora and
birdlife along the way. Reach the camp, where you can relax and enjoy the panoramic views of the
surrounding peaks.
Day 4:
Old Moses -Shipton Camp
Today, the trail takes you through the fascinating Teleki Valley, offering impressive views of the
surrounding peaks, including Batian and Nelion. Pass the picturesque Mackinder’s Valley and ascend to
Shipton Camp. The camp is situated beneath the peaks of Batian and Nelion, offering breathtaking
vistas. Rest and acclimatize at the camp.
Day 5:
Summit Attemp-Point Lenana
Wake up early around midnight for a pre-dawn summit attempt. After a light breakfast and equipped
with headlamps, start ascending the steep scree path towards Point Lenana, the third-highest peak on
Mt. Kenya. As the sun rises, reach Point Lenana and witness the awe-inspiring views from the summit.
Descend back to Shipton Camp for a rewarding breakfast. Continue descending further through the
alpine and bamboo zones until reaching the Naru Moru Gate. Transfer to your hotel in Naru Moru. Enjoy
a well-deserved celebration dinner.
Day 6:
Nairobi
After breakfast, bid farewell to Mt. Kenya and depart for Nairobi. Depending on your flight timings, you
may have some free time to explore Nairobi or engage in some souvenir shopping. Transfer to Jomo
Kenyatta International Airport for your departure flight.
