Overview
Embark on an exhilarating 5-Day Mount Kenya Climb, venturing through the picturesque Sirimon and Chogoria routes, each offering unique perspectives of Africa’s second-highest peak. Beginning at Sirimon Gate, you’ll ascend gradually through lush montane forests, encountering diverse flora and fauna along the way. As the landscape shifts, you’ll transition to the Chogoria route, famed for its stunning alpine scenery and dramatic ridges. With each day’s ascent, you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking vistas of jagged peaks and pristine valleys. As you approach Point Lenana, the mountain’s third-highest summit, anticipation builds, culminating in an awe-inspiring sunrise summit experience. Descending through moorlands and dense bamboo forests, the journey concludes with a sense of accomplishment and a lifetime of memories forged amidst Mount Kenya’s majestic beauty.
Day 1:
You’ll have the morning link up with our representative at your Nairobi hotel who’ll brief you about your upcoming trip. Thereafter, depart for the 4 hour drive to Nanyuki Town and onto the Sirimon Gate (2660 metres) of Mount Kenya National Park. From the Gate, trek through magnificent montane forest, bamboo forest, giant heather zone to the high altitude moorland. Arrive at Old Moses Camp ( 3300 metres). This gentle trek takes 4 hours and enables you to gain an elevation of 680 metres. Your overnight stay will be at Old Moses Camp on half-board basis.
Day 2:
Have breakfast at the Old Moses Camp, trek from Old Moses to Shiptons Camp. Follow the trek uphill,
forking right at the junction. You will cross Ontulili River and turn right contouring through moorland and
cross Likii North River. Continue uphill to Mackinder’s Valley from where you will enjoy panoramic views
up the valley towards Shipton’s Camp. Trek on to Shipton’s Camp (4,200 metres).
The Shiptons Camp is surreal, set below the main peaks and glacier. Today’s trek takes 7 hours with 900
metres of ascent. Your overnight stay will be at Shiptons Camp on full board basis. Accommodation:

Day 3:
Spent the Day Around Shiptons Camp Acclimatizing
Take this day for acclimatization arond the Shiptons Camp. You can have short walks and hikes to
Oblong and Hauseberg Trans, gaining an elevation of of 370 metres before returning to the camp for
lunch. Spend the afternoon on leisure. Climbing high and sleeping low is excellent for acclimatization.
Your overnight stay will be at Shiptons Camp on full board basis.
Day 4:
Trek from Shiptons Camp to Point Lenana and to The Meru Bandas. Leave the Shiptons Camp at 3:00 am
and go up a steep stony quarry that cuts through a cliff clearing visible parts towards Lower Hall Tarns.
Todays trek takes 12 hours. You arrive at Point Lenana ( 4985 metres) around 6:30 am. This is the 3rd
highest peak on Mount Kenya and you'll gain 780 metres elevation. After the sun-rise, descend to
Mintos Hut for breakfast. Later, continue the descent to the Meru Bandas (2950 metres) where you will
have dinner and your overnight stay on full board basis.
Day 5
Trek from Meru Bandas to Chogoria Gate and Drive to Nairobi. Have breakfast at the Meru Bandas. Then
descend for 2 hours to a forest clearance to catch a 4 X 4 vehicle transfer to Chogoria village and onto
your transfer vehicle for Nairobi. Here you'll be dropped off. Breakfast and lunch are provided.
